Biomechanics and Gait Analysis
First visit up to 60 MINUTES • £70
Biomechanics is the study of movement and the application of the laws of physics on movement. A biomechanical assessment is when we examine the way your lower limbs work, checking for abnormalities and possible causes of pain in the foot, ankle, knee, and back. The test can take up to 1 hour and you will need to wear shorts or comfortable trousers so that we can see your knees and lower limbs as you move. The examination is divided into two sections: A static assessment during which we will take various measurements while you stand up and lie down and a dynamic assessment during which we will analyse your gait.
Once we have identified the causes of your problems we can develop a tailor-made treatment plan to improve your symptoms. This may involve one or more of the following:
✓ - Exercises to stretch or strengthen muscles
✓ - Orthoses – specially made devices for you to wear inside your shoe to control, realign or cushion the abnormalities. Added cost will be explained and advised by your Podiatrist.
✓ - Footwear advice
✓ - Referral on to other members of the healthcare team if further specialist advice is needed.
